PC crashes randomly

Hello, I'm geert peeters from belgium and just signed in with a serious problem.

A friend of mine has a problem with his PC. He's running a busy graphical design office and has a 1.7Ghz P4 PC. I'm totally not a PC expert, but since he's even worse, I give him support as much as possible.

Well,
His PC crashes randomly, without any indication of the OS. Just a reset while doing some normal operations, like working in photoshop or reading mail. the PC start up agian and there is no indication of occurred errors or something else. The system is running XP home. Before it was running Win98 and we didn't have the problem. I already reinstalled the thing a few times, but that doesn't help at all. Maybe there is a hardware conflict somewhere in the system, but I would not know how to track that.

Is there anybody who has ever heard of this behaviour before??? Can anyone help me with some additional onfo??

Check the event logs to see if anything is written there. You can use the Device Manager to identify any conflicts as well. Can this issue be isolated to one particular software running?

not related to a specific app

I will check in the event log application if there is some info. The problem is not directly related to a certain application. That's why it worries me so much.

i had the same problem with several computers on my folk's network. it was conflicts between some driver's and one of the 2,234,343 service packs installed. i'd take the above advice and try to find a new/stable driver for w/e was causing the problem.

I think it might be also a hardware problem. Usually memory problem. Xp Windows handles more amount of memory than win 98. Perhaps when the os tries to write in a defective ram it crashes. You can find on the internet many utilities to do a memory test.
Good Luck!
