Right I have a win2k server 2 network cards (no router) 1 card to net through modem and 1 to home network.

One that home network I have a linux box with webserver on it. Now internally this works fine, but i need to be accessable from the outside world.. what is the best method of doing this?

Thanks for any help.

The linux box will either need to be placed in the DMZ or the box will need to be exposed to the internet.

Send a message via AIM to icrf
vic's right, research "port forwarding" and find how it's implemented with your win2k router (or possibly network connection sharing as I reluctantly learned once)

Well as im using ICS I tried port fowarding (network connections, advanced, setttings) and tried to forward port 3306 with no joy. tried to forward 80 but cant as "another entry uses this".

Its really just a connection to the database that I need, port 3306 default, as the form that send the info to the database is elsewhere. But failing that I add a page to the webserver and do it local hence wanting port 3306 or port 80

The linux box would make a much better router than winblows.
if your modem is NOT a win modem or you can get a real modem. setup the linux box as your router and firewall. You'll learn more and have a better setup.

Forwarding port 3306 did not work? Using the right protocol?

You will have to open port 3306 on your firewall(s) as well.

If there is already an entry for port 80, delete it, then add a new one.

I have had good luck with this type of arrangement in the past.
