port forwarding

Hi!

I'm trying to run SHOUTcast streaming audio from my computer, which is the client on a 2 comp home LAN.

In order to run SHOUTcast I have to do some port forwarding, which is a quagmire to me. Can anyone help?

The host comp has an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo with onboard LAN, so we don't use a router (er...I guess this is our router). This runs XP Pro.

My comp (client) has an MSI K7N420 Pro. This one runs XP Home.

Can anyone help me? The SHOUTcast forums helped a little, but they get irritated when you don't understand and this is all very new to me.
Thanks.

So you are using ICS [internet connection sharing] in xP?

disable all firewalls temporarily and test again. Check you advanced button on tcp/ip protocol properties and unless you have made changes here XP is forwarding everything in the known port range. If this shoutcast is using a unknown port [anything above 1024] then prehaps putting a entry in the services file [find the file "services" and only use a text editor not word to edit the file. It's pretty easy to edit and you will want a copy on both machines. Not sure if XP can forward uncommon ports.
