Hi. I am currently trying to turn my computer into a web server. However, this computer is currently part of a 3-computer network (one of which is solely the internet gateway--running xp). I have tried using Sygate to share/forward the needed ports (8080-->80), and it works...but it keeps disconnecting me every five minutes (which gets very annoying I might add), which has left me with no other choice but Windows XP ICS . The thing is that there already is a "phonebook entry"(?) for a "HTTP Web Server" automatically configured on port 80, both internal and external, and XP won't allow you to change it. I need to be able to do that, so I can forward the port from 8080 on one of the clients to port 80 in ICS. I have tried running ICS and Sygate at the same time, though I am worried that Sygate will compete for and eventually control my Internet Connection once again. I cannot stop Sygate from sharing my internet connection without having it also stop the port forwarding. Is there any way to edit the XP Web Server port? Please reply ASAP.
P.S.: Whenever I do netstat -a to see which of my ports are being used, I see multiple entries for computer:http or computer:80 with either a LISTENING or ESTABLISHED status, though I cannot serve web pages through there. Last edited by macrohard : March 31st, 2003 at 09:48 PM. |

XP Web Server Port. Yeah. In IIS. Go to (in XP, obviously) Start>Network Connections/Connect To...>[Internet Connection Name] >Sharing>Advanced.
You will see a list of Services/Ports which go through IIS. One of them is the Web Server (HTTP) port assigned to port 80. I need to change the internal port assignment, so it can be forwarded to port 80. |

Great, except that there is NO Internet Services Manager control panel. When logged on as an admin, I go to Start>run>inetmgr.exe
It opens up the IIS control panel, but there is nothing in either the left and right panes. All that's in the left is a little "node icon" that says Internet Information Services, that doesn't expand. |

Well, are you using IIS, or do you just have it installed at this point?

Sry for the delay. I have gotten the apache server to run on port 80 rather than 8080 (I found out that THAT problem was caused by having IIS installed and running, even though I made sure it DIDN'T). Anyway, I am currently using ICS rather than Sygate, since Sygate kept on disconnecting me and didn't re-connect. Please advise. As far as IIS goes, I have removed it and no longer have that control panel or inetmgr.exe.
P.S.: When I go into the ICS properties (the list of services that go through ICS) and select Web Server (HTTP) and click properties, I get the box that says "Computer name or IP address..." with the ports below it greyed out. I can fill in the name, though it has NO EFFECT on the connection, even after I redial. Also, in reguards to my previous posts, I meant ICS rather than IIS. Sorry for the confusion.
