Questions about CD formatting
I was wondering if there was a way to take a normal CD-R and to format it into a music CD-R. I couldn't find anything on the internet for it, I'm afraid I may wind up just having to buy them pre-formatted. I know that once you burn a CD, the format of the data is burned with it, but I need to have a formatted music CD-R to test on a stand-alone Phillips music CD writer.
Thanks, Chris |

"pre-formatted" is the wrong term here.
Afaik it is only one single bit in the CDR header that is changed. But if your standalone CD writer checks this bit, there is no other way than flashing a new bios. (huh, hope It was not illegal to tell you this... you can circumvent some copy protection mechanisms the same way... LOL) hth, M.

a cdr disk is a one time thing, it cannot be formatted, when new(blank) it is ready to use, you drop it in the burner you intend to use, and use whatever software you want to write what you want on it. you can leave the disk open or amendable where you can add more files at a later time, the only trouble with this is not all cd drives/players will read the info that is on it while open/amendable.
