Removing IE from XP Home Ver.

Hi,

My main desire here is to somehow remove a file called newdotnet3_36-1.dll
that was "acquired" from using imesh, I think. The imesh is gone, but the annoying dll (spy-ware) acts as an IE plug-in...my OS graciously informs, and starts up with IE, so quickly untouchable.

Forgive my ignorance of MSWin systems but wasnt there a court order to make IE removable. All my novice fiddling was fruitless. & it seems with XP, I got no chance at going into DOS as it boots up. (XP was NOT my choice, came w/laptop)

Still I hope to be rid of IE soon or at least this dll.

Someone please advise me.

If you press "F8" as soon as your PC starts booting, it will offer you a boot menu where you can select "Safe mode". There you should be able to remove the dll.
If you still can not delete it, use the option "Safe mode, command line only" or similar.
... You wanted to use DOS to get rid of the file?
- It´s not really DOS, but you´ll feel home

Yes and no...
The people vs. Microsoft - 0:1. They used some really dirty tricks. But who would not in their situation? Did you watch the case?

Install SP1 for XP. Then you get a new tab in your "Control Panel / Software". There you can setup a different default browser and email client. But you still cannot remove IE.

ie removal

It's a very bad idea, but for what ever reason, go to add remove program, click add remove windows components, take the check out of internet explorer and click ok/next. if it doesnt remove all of the browser, look up a program called ie irradicator. like i said very bad idea. alot of the third party just skin ie, and add a few modifications if you remove ie alot of shared components will have to be replaced, best to just set the browser you want as default, like the wise person who posted before me sugested, and LEAVE ie on xp

go to http://security.kolla.de and download and install spybot search & destroy. This will remove most if not all spyware/adware/scumware on your computer.
