You need to get some form of a remote connection utility like PCAnywhere or VNC . This will allow you to connect to the remote machine and control it as if you were on the actual computer.

search www.microsoft.com if there is a "terminal services client for windows 98".
windows XP has "pcanywhere" built-in ![]() on the other hand, VNC is free, so why not? it should also be possible with the "remote administration" service, but i donīt know if there is a client for the 9X-versions.

I can't remember if you can run a telnet server from XP Pro. If you can, you could connect on telnet and restart the service that way (assuming you're not trying to restart telnet

Windows XP Home Remote Control
There actually is a unix client for Windows Terminal Services that
in my experience works remarkably well called rdesktop. I use rdesktop on my FreeBSD system to administer my WinXP system. If you're running FreeBSD, rdesktop is convieniently located in the ports tree. The rest of you can download a source tarball at http://www.rdesktop.org. The way TS works is kinda neat in that if you log into the console of your XP system and start a handful of tasks, you can then log in with rdesktop (or whatever TS client) and carry on from where you left off. Unlike good old unix systems with ssh/telnet though, only one user can log into TS at a time (at least under XP PRO) |
