RPC service Terminating

I am running Windows 2000 Server with service pack 3 and when I rebooted my server the RPC service keeps terminating unexpectedly. How can I trak down what's causing the service to crash and how can I fix this.

I'm wondering if my friend has the same problem??? - he asked me to try and find out some info - this is what he said was happening:

"My PC starts up OK, but after running for 1-3 minutes an error message appears saying, "the RPC (remote call procedure) has terminated unexpectedly, and windows will therefore restart in 30 seconds"

...then she restarts. i have tried unckecking the 'Automatic restart' box (settings, system, advanced) but the messaege still appears.

i have scanned the machine for viruses and run a disc cleanup utility."

any help would be gratefully recieved!

I downloaded the detection tool from symantec and the patch from microsoft's site and updated my antivirus with the latest definitions and now its working fine. The detection tool did not find anything but my pc was not restarting. It sounds though that your friend may be infected.
