Seriously annoying problem

When i try to install a game it comes up with constant CRC errors and the game doesn't work due to corrupt or missing files and any zip file i download from the net that is over say 20mb is corrupt when trying to extract the files, this includes self extracting programs like an update, etc. This is real annoying cause I have a 56k connection and I don't have to explain how long it takes to download stuff.

My computer specs are
AMD XP1800+
Epox 8kha+ mb
512 mb PC2100 DDR Ram
128mb Geforce 4 ti4400
40gb WD HDD
Windows XP Professional

This is becoming a real annoyance, i hope someone has some idea what is wrong. Thanks.

this is the problem with downloading from kazaa, winmx, filetopia, mirc..................... they have a long list of viruses being passed around, even though the virus has been removed by the owners of the copies you are getting the files can still be corrupted, and also you being on dial up, you probably either suspend download from time to time or get kicked off, this also causes file corruption. i understand the price of software can be bad, but then again buying it has alot of real advantages also.

if the games are on cd try making a folder and copy the files to your drive, then install from that location. if it still gives you missing file warnings, write down the file it wants, after you get the file, usually zipped, unzip to C:\Windows\system32
