settings kick me out!

My labtop's screen resolution and color quality is at its lowest. When i enter windowsxp, it asks me if i want my color and resolution to set back to normal, automatically. When i press the yes button, a blue error screens quickly pops up and dissappears in one second making windows xp to restart all over again.
I tried bringing back my resolution manually, by right clicking the mouse pad and going into settings. But as soon as i click this, the same blue error screen pops right back and and kicks me right back out.
What can I do to fix this , most probably, easy problem?

Did it ever work or did you just install XP?

If it did work earlier but broke for no obvious reasons:
Reinstall your video card drivers, if this doesn't help, re-start with the mainboard / agp drivers and then try reinstalling the video drivers again.

Still no luck? ... Time to wipe the disk and start from scratch... IMHO anything else I can think of is not worth the effort and of questionable results....)

M.
