strange windows xp install problem

greetings,

i bought a brand new pc,

put it all together, no problems,

booted up first time, cpu found, memory correct,
hard drive and dvd found correctly,

so i start installing windows xp

it formats the hd fine,
then goes onto create the list of files its going to copy, thats fine

but

it always hangs mid way through the copying process, somtimes
at large files such as drivers.cab , other times on small files

now ive tried 2 different copies of windows xp
ive tried different cd drives
ive tried changing over the memory
and ive tested the hard drive in another pc

i can't understand why it would boot and work correctly to that
point if it were a problem with the cpu or motherboard???

has anyone else had a problem like this?

did you fix it?

thanks

jakara

Angry Same Problem

I'm having the same issue. The copy process gets to 18% and the file listed is the driver.cab.

The PC is a Pentium III 550 Mhz with 192MB of Ram. I've installed a new Hitachi/IBM 60GB hard drive. The motherboard is an ASUS P2B-F. I flashed the BIOS to the most recent, this allowed it to recognize the 60GB hard drive.

I've deleted the partician, and reformatted several times. But it's always the same result. I've swapped the memory around, running with 64MB and then 128MB. Always the same result.

I hope someone has seen it and fixed it.

John

Wink It's Fixed

I got my problem fixed as well. Turns out the new US Robotics modem (I know.. ewwww, modem) was bad. Once I removed it from the system, everything worked fine.
