Hi All,
I had some automatic updates for window xp and now all my html files are shown as unknown file types though they do open with explorer on double click. I tried to change the icons going to Tools->Folder Options->File types , but it does'nt do anything. Please Help! Thanks.. |

Install Firefox, that should change the association, and the next time IE fires up allow it to be the default browser, and that should change the icons back

Its says that it opens up with iexplorer. And like I said it does open up in IE but the icons that are shown are of the unknown type. |

have you tried making Firefox your default browser, and then running IE and make it the default browser.
Other than that, I'm thinking maybe there's a corrupt resource file and it can't recover the IE icon from it. If it's that big a bugbear, then try running 'sfc/scannow' from the run box or a command prompt, any files that differ should be replaced, no guarantees though |

I did run sfc /scannow. It ran without any error. At the end did not display anything so I suppose everything looks fine to it.
But I still have unknown icons displayed for html file ![]() |

When you're in 'Folder Options>File Types', does it show the correct icon in there ?
Are you using SP2 or SP3 ?

In that case, sounds like you have a corrupt 'iconcache.db'. Easiest way to sort it is to boot your machine into 'Safe' mode, then re-boot and boot as normal - this should rebuild it.
If that fails, you can delete the file by going to: Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Iconcache.db Easiest way is the safe mode way though! ![]() |
