    Backing up Vista's Registry

Does Vista (HP, 32bit) automatically make a backup of the Registry.

If not, how can I back up the registry?

    Thanks

    Ps. I have read Help

On a related point. I think I should also create a restore point.

    How can I do this.

Vista has its own backup, but, it isn't really usable.

on the other 2 questions, google is your friend.

first question: how do I backup the registry in Vista

second question: how do I create a restore point in Vista

Thank for the links. I found them very helpful.

If Vista makes its own backup, why is it not useful?

    I didn't say useful....I said usable.

Windows has its own special backup, that is mostly only accessible thru the F8 startup option called "Last Known Good Configuration"..to help fix corrupted registry from virus or failed app install.

Its location is usually in a subfolder of C:\Windows\System32\config ..in Win7 its called RegBack and should contain 4 or 5 files all with uppercase filenames.
These files are not usable to the "normal" User in the state they are, in that folder.
Its actually best NOT to muck about with these files.

If you want to learn more about the registry, I suggest you google your registry questions...as you will get much more responses from google search.
