Weird Problem

I am having a problem with Windows xp Professional. I start the computer up and everything is all fine and dandy until the user name screen should load... the screen either stays black, or if scan disk had been run, freezes when finished. I can still here sound like normal and even log in. But nothing is being displayed.

Any help would be appreciated.

when you turn the machine on, after the bios screen start tapping the F* key untill the boot options appear, try starting in safe mode, if that dont work try last known good configuration, did you install anything new, hardware or software? and if so what?

was supposed to be the F8 key, didnt get off the sift key as fast as i should have.

i tried using safe mode and every other mode for that matter none of which worked.

what kind of back ups do you have, this sounds like time for atleast a reinstall, if you have the xp cd drop it in and try a repair, format and recovery cds can go either way, may or may not loose your info, even if you dont select format option.
