Why my PC frequently did memory dumping?

I have DIY computer AMD1.4G, XP installed, when over 7 windows opened, memory dumping happend.

Anyone who has the same experience? what is the solution? would you please let me know?

Are you sure that you purchased the right type of RAM for your motherboard, ie is it the correct speed? Is it just one chip or 2? If 2 chips are they both the same type and are the contacts on both RAM chips of the same material (silver or gold)?

I have two chips with same brand and size, 128M
I bought one 256M later and I only have 3 Memeory slots, All three chips are DDR2100.

The problem happened before I bought 256M memory, I thought it was caused by the shortage of the memeory, so I bought another one, the problem was alleviated, but it is still there.

Any idea?

does it misbehave with other operating systems? have u all the motherboard systems uptodate - BIOS for 1? are all the jumpers set correctly ?

yes, it becomes worse when you install more applications.
It happens more on Windows2000 than XP.

I am afraid if I failed to upgade BOIS that may damage the motherboard. Is it safe to upgrade BOIS? I have a Soyo K7ADA motherboard.

I use the default jumpers, I have no idea if it is right or not.

BIOS upgrades for the most part come from the manufacturer- they are not in the business of damaging their own boards ... normally

look at the documentation for ur motherboard very carefully, it will tell u the range of the cpus it can take, memory requirements and so on, it will also give u the jumper configurations for it.

mine to is a DIY box and i had to change around the clock jumpers on the board to get it running properly.......

the only other thing i can think of is that 1 of the chips might be damaged at a certain address and returns the bogus info that cuases ur computer to go belly up - not very sure about this, dont know if error dection comes standard in memory chips these days.
try to identify the chip by using them one at a time........

i had a similiar problem with my old AMD k6-2, when i took out the memory and put it back in a couple of days later it kept blue screening during the installion of windows 98 at roughly the same point during the install. i never had a problem running linux off the same box though........

I tried hard to check all with my PC with your hints, I found
one configuration problem with audio card. The stability
improved a lot, but it has some IRQL error.

I bught a Norton systemWorks, found some virus, coming along with java environments downloaded from Internet, killed them, so far so good.

I will pay attention and test each Memory when I got the chance, it is likely to be the reasons now. The down time happened when I open more 10 windows and when some web applications were running.

Do you know some memeory testing software available?
