Win XP: Stuck on Blue screen on intial setup

Hello,

NOTE: This is not a blue screen of death.

I have read so many posts on this problem but non of them give a definite answer.

But, I have just done a fresh install of XP, it installed fine and restarted for the intial setup pages, (blue screens), I get so far as entering a password (which i havnt yet) and click next and it freezes. All but the forward, backward, skip arrows and windows logo are on the screen. Which dont work.

I can get CMD up (shift+f10) so if any body has any suggestions through that, that would be great?

The hardware is sounds since it was being used prior to the installation.

Thanks,

Niall

Try booting off the disk and doing a repair install. This will fix any install issues without killing your data.

Thanks, But I cant, I am using recovery disks,

I have heard of peopel saying this is a hardware issue but still no solutions?

Is there any way to force it to continue?

When i bring up taskmgr everything seems to be running fine, it just doesnt want to go any further!

try pressing f8 repeatedly on boot, and choose 'last known working configuration'.

Try to boot into safe mode and diagnose the cause first.

Ok well it seems to be getting stuck at MUP.sys or rather what ever comes after MUP.sys, since once you have seen it, its loaded?

What comes after MUP.sys?

Thanks
