Angry Win2000 Service Packs won't install

Hi folks,

I am trying to load a recovered winMe machine with Win2000. Got everything running from CD-ROM and started loading software goodies, Norton, AOL, so far. Haven't loaded my ZoneAlarm yet.

Went to download Acrobat 6.0 full program and it said it wasn't compatible with this version of Win2000.

So, I tried to download the Service Pack 4 from MS and it wouldn't install after downloading. Error message said "Server name or address could not be resolved". Message then directs you to go to MS site and search "problems downloading Service Packs", but I couldn't see any reference there that applied. :confused

?Any talented helpers out there? Vince in rainyRixeyville, VA.

did you upgrade from ME to 2000, i mean have ME installed, and used the cd to upgrade, if so you will have problems, upgrading me to 2000 is not supported by the system, it will do it ,but microsoft list the many reasons why it wont work on thier site, if you can try a clean install of 2000 and use the ntfs file system if possible.

Win2K Clean install won't update

This is a clean install of Win2000.

I had WinMe on a Dell 266, with 384Megs of RAM running PC66 at non-overclocked 266Mhz.

System crashed last week and lost the whole data package except for files backed up onto CD-ROM last month

Took the machine to my friend who does the computers at the Washington Post in DC and we went through a clean install of Win2000. All up and running fine with NTFS.

Tried to load Acrobat 6.0 Professional after downloading from Adobe site and it said, " Acrobat 6.0 is not supported by this version of win2k."

Sooooooo,,,,,,,,,naturally, I tried to install it after downloading the Win2000 Service Pack 4 (latest'n'greatest, right?). Got error message saying "server name or address could not be resolved"

Same thing happened when I tried to downloading/installing all of the other Service Packs.
Will be going back to MS help site again to search the suggestion given by screen saying :See problems downloading the Service Pack:

Help, again, I'm afraid, thanks, Vince.

Question additional info

Oh yes, the Norton Antivirus SW "auto-protect" was turned off per Adobe's instructions and all applications terminated so that only the install was running besides the desktop. Still can't find anything meaningful about service pack installation problems on MS site. Vince.
