Windows 98 sound problems
Ummm... why isn't there a forum for Win98 and 95? Anyways my problem:
My computer doesn't play sound anymore. Nothing, not even MIDI. I dont think it is my drivers. I unistalled them and removed the device (an old Yamaha sound card) about 4 times and there is still no sound. When I look at the divice properties it sais it is working properly. But it ain't man.... And in the control panel/multimedia, the Audio and the MIDI page are completely grayed out. I haven't installed any new hardware lately and it just stopped outta nowhere. But I can't give too many details on how it started because it was my little brother... (fag!) |

Did you ever have sound with that card in that board with win98? Can you use the Windows Update Service?
Can you get any more info from your little Brother, like did he install something? Are you trying the same driver or a different one? Did you install the service pack? Can you get more info on the card and driver? Last edited by mojosoupus : July 22nd, 2003 at 02:08 PM. |

98 drivers
even if you install a driver, with a setup program, sometimes you still have to go to device manager, click on the device thenupdate driver from there, if you installed the right one auto search may find it, if the program made a folder somewhere you may have to direct it to the folder. this is normal for 9x machines, for example, if you install a us robotics driver for a 56k modem you have to direct the driver install to C, if that is your drive letter, C:\USR to install the driver, even though it was a installer program, but as mojo said, need more info to be more help.

You may need to reinstall sndvol32.exe (see my XP no sound icon post). Although yours sounds more like a driver issue, this is the program that controls the volume dashboard and the tray icon.
If you are running win98 SE, here's something that may apply: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;242937 This may be included in a service pack or update available from the update center -- if that's available to you. Otherwise, find a Win95 driver. Win3.1 won't work, and if your card is old and you have a 98 driver installed, chances are it's not the correct driver for that card since older cards don't have win98 drivers. Win95 drivers will work though. Last edited by mojosoupus : July 24th, 2003 at 01:45 PM. |
