WMP disappearing.
I'm sure nobody here is surprised to here that Window's Media Player
is acting up. However I am just curious if it is a normal thing for the active playlist to still be running despite the fact that there is no MWplayer tab in the taskbar? Is there any dl to fix this, or should I consider a quicker media player? I don't want to pay for a new one, but I want one that works. Any suggestions would be great. |

(OO;?(Oh! Zombie!)
There's actually programs which have a option whether the task is displayed or not. So that it is itself individual process. WMP itself is a kind of monster that uses all the resource at the same time. IE or WMP problems can come from system unstability as a whole, since they are integrated into Windows. |

You could try re-installing WMP as that will overwrite the existing one, and also any existing bugs.
However, should you want a new player, have you had a look at Winamp ?? |

Another interesting fact: when I minimized FireFox, WMP was visible again. I gave it focus, and the taskbar for it showed up again. It's been almost an hour and it just randomly showed up again. While in this hour I was listening to Bad Company. Weird.
I've had a variety of media players: for one my computer came with Quicktime, Real Player, Winamp, Jukebox?, and WMP, and something else, but I removed them because WMP is just fine for me. I don't use it much because I have a CD player next to my computer, but recently it decided that it won't play an CD new or not.. so back to the PC for now. I liked Winamp. Maybe I will dl it again. |

<somewhat off-topic topic="I personally prefer WMP over all most every player." />

(Oo;?(Oh! For such guys Media Player Classic with Klite Codec Pack will do.)
Otherwise, \System32 should contain mplayer2.exe actual WMP6.4. WMP tries to unnecessarily connect to Internet and to govern all resource using ActiveX and DirectX. If Firefox prevents it, WMP may be trojanned. |

You do understand that I am talking about WMP when it is not embedded within the brower. and I run SpybotSD and Panda Titanium until yesterday when the trial ran out, so I doubt this strange effect is because of a trojan. |

I don't think it's a trojan, especially not after reading that you have been running AV software.
What version of WMP are you running anyway ? |

(Oo;?(Embedded? What do you mean? WMP itself has networking ability.)
WMP uses NIC as well as Video and Sound, Active Movie, Active Music or so are all from Internet and free from any restriction. I'm not always saying it is due to Trojan, but that common with Firefox is networking related. Moreover do you really believe any Antivirus is so reliable nowadays? You easily find rootkits and even make use of it. Some tools have options whether you like to hide registry entry and process or not. Of course, it may be due to system unstability. Have tried System Restore? And run: "sfc /scannow" |

No, I don't trust one AV over another, that's why I have several installed, as well as spyware removers/etc. Quote:
Yes they do, but they also have the same option but in reverse, which for somebody who knows what the entries mean can make a substantial difference in the results of the scan. Thanks for all the help and suggestions so far. I've dl Winamp's newest version I like it. As far as WMP, unless I find the reinstall CD soon, I won't bother. |
