xp on HDD, work on 1 comp. and not the other
hey... if ne one can help me, i have installed xp on my uncles OLD computer because his 98 was giving him major errors. so ne ways i installed xp on his computer using mine (the errors wouldn't let him install xp, kept saying it was missing crap). so once it was installed on the HDD i booted on my computer and it worked perfectly... but once i installed to HDD in my uncles computer a blank screen came up with one flashing underscore. and that is it. i have no idea what to do, so ne help would be GREATLY appreshiated. thank you for ur time and comments.
sincerely, jeff/teledorf |

cant do that
You can not install on one machine and then move the drive to a different machine. This is due to how the HAL is created during the install. Machine A may have a different chipset/hd controller/cpu then Machine B. This is why your xfer did not work.
Install XP from scratch on the old pc. Check to make sure the specs of the old pc match those of XP. |

If XP wouldnt install on the other machine there was probably a hardware conflict anyway or not enough system to support xp.
and wanderer2 is correct about xp not booting on a different hardware setup. i have had it happen, but was very close to the same hardware setup in those cases. |
