can any of you tell me how do I get around the fact that my xp prof cd must be scratched. I cannot boot from it and when I did the upgrade from home it told me at the install that it could not copy the winlogon.exe file. I tried to expand the file from the 6 discs I downloaded from the microsoft site that enables me to get to the repair console but apparently the disc is scratched because even the expand command cannot copy the winlogon file.
The symptom on the computer is that it appears to be booting and loading and then it just locks forever. Where can I get another copy of the winlogon.exe file that I can try to load it and see if the machine will boot correctly?? Helpppppppp |

Usually you can get a replacement cd from Microsoft (for a small fee) if you can show proof of ownership.

Doug
Thankyou I will try that. I tried to substitute a file from another computer to no avail. Apparently as I feared this file is integrated closely to the xp platform Thankyou for your help |
