getting rid of 2000
up until recently i had windows 2000 on my pc but then i installed xp.
but now when i turn my computer on, it brings up a screen asking me to choose between xp and 2000 and has a 30 second countdown. i want to completely get rid of 2000 and avoid that screen.. how can i do this without screwing up all my xp stuff/files?

You will need to edit the boot.ini file which you should find at the root level of your active partition. This is a read only file so you will have to change the attributes on this file first before you can edit it. Save a backup copy of this file just in case a problem arises after you edit it. Remove the lines pertaining to 2000 and make sure XP is listed as the default and cut the time from 30 seconds to 0. Also remember to set this file back to read only when you are finished to prevent anything else from modifying it afterwards.

Sorry, was thinking you had done an upgrade to XP which had replaced 2000, you are saying both operating systems will boot on this machine and you want to physically remove 2000?
