    Standby Issues

    Quick question:

Anyone know why a laptop would go into standby when the lid is closed even though i specify under power options "do nothing" when lid is closed? The laptop is docked, but I did not see a setting in the bios/docking area that would override the OS. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Does it go into standby right when you close the lid, or after x amount of time? There's another option that puts the computer in standby mode after x amount of time if it's been idle.

(Also... don't remember if laptops have 2 separate "do nothing" options... 1 for ac power, and 1 for battery... )

I know you said you checked the BIOS already, but usually that's where you'll find this option if your Windows settings aren't being acknowledged. It might be hidden in with the power options, or the miscellaneous settings (enabling/disabling on-board components, VGA buffer size, etc.).

Also, does it latch closed, or is it a soft-close screen? If it latches, there may be a switch that's being triggered, sending it into standby.

Re-check your settings firstly. Wouldn't be the first time that Windows has changed them back all by itself.
