My wife and I were wanting to learn Sharepoint as her job seems to use this software. I noticed various trial versions, and upon looking on the internet, I noticed Server versions and Workstation versions.
So my question is:
Do I need a Sharepoint Server set up for the Sharepoint Workstation to connect to? I would imagine so, but figured I'd ask to see if anyone uses this and what version would be best to try out. There were 4 trials available on the MS site... Enterprise, Internet, Standard, etc... My computer seems to have the requirements to host the server, so I was going to set mine up as one and then install the workstation version on hers... I tried looking through the sharepoint site, but didn't see a whole lot about how it all works...

To be able to test sharepoint functionality yes, you will have to install a sharepoint server.
When you install sharepoint on server, you can create different web sites in it which you can access from any location and connect.
