HELP with XPATH

Hi there

I am turing to do a query using xpath as follow
type=string
reg=string

var nodes = xmlDoc.selectNodes(path)

path="/business/id[region='" + reg + "' and type='"+ type +"']/ "

i get and error that this doesnt return a DOM object.

Can ANYONE PLEASE HELP on how to make this work
