Menus & Submenus using XSl

Hello there

Having tried all different sorts of things (incl.use of variables) to solve my problem, I've now no option but to kindly request help from the experts. I want to display a menu with submenus from an xml doc using xslt. By matching against one of the attrs. (called text) and select its values, i can display all of the menu items (text with links). However, what I'd like to do is, when I click on one item, a submenu shown below it is displayed. In the xml doc there's an attr. called menu with values: "mainMenu" , "subMenu1", "subMenu2" and "subMenu3".
Any ideas? Has someone come across this b4. If so please help this poor guy.

I use XSL and XML to configure my JavaScript menus. I use an older version of DHTML lab's hierarchical menus http://www.webreference.com/dhtml/hiermenus/. I believe the new versions may cost $.
