Ok, so now we must spread the news somehow....

Any suggestions where to go to spread a little news about this forum, maybe mozdev, or other places?

Post some site links on XUL here and I can try to break a little ground and try to get some XUL dev's here........

Thanks for the XUL forum, jpenn .

You might want to visit the links section at Mozdev.

Hey rycamor, check this out. I use the Google toolbar with Mozilla and that is written in XUL. It just came to me, writing a DevShed toolbar in XUL to search the forums on the fly. A drop down menu for selecting the forum and a search box to type your key(s) in. It would work on Mozilla, Netscape, AOL 8.0 and others....

Hmmmm, might be on to something here....

Might be a good app to write learn a little about the technology.

PS: Zeus is the man to be thanking on the new forum. Now we have to get it active somehow to keep it up.....

Great idea! Let me know how I can help, or if you want me to start first .

(Props to Zeus. With the new categories at Devshed, I think we are witnessing another big step forward for Devshed in the developer community.)

Yes - my plan is to first study the source of the googlebar and then start on the app. And yes, that would be great rycamor, maybe we can start a mini co-project with this thing.....

Let me know. We can both pretty much start on it and compare notes or blocks of source when we get that far.....

And actually, once the project is done, we could get it posted on mozdev also to help bring more people to the forums....

I am looking for some XUL forums to see how active they are, but can't seem to find any. Maybe I am overlooking them, or maybe my pupils are just fried from looking at this monitor all day long. I have ran searches on google, dmoz, yahoo and msn and can't seem to find no forums.

If you run accross any, can you post some links for them....

Well, these aren't forums, but there are the netscape.public.mozilla newsgroups.

Can someone link that for me? All I can find is the toolbar for ie and some javascript buttons.

    Hey rycamor,
What do you think. Instead of having the search window in the browser bar itself (like the googlebar), what about just having a button on the bar. Once the button is pressed, the gui will pop-up with the options for the search....

    I like it .

We could also have a 'lite' version of the Devshed bar, which doesn't even require installation. It could just be launched in a small floating 'always-on-top' toolbar, and stay available, as long as the user keeps that browser window open. Maybe even make it optional as part of the user prefs, so that if the user logs in with Mozilla, the toolbar is automatically opened.

Does it go away when I hit enter, or do I have to close it myself?

If it goes away, do I have to hit the button again if the search didn't return the results that I wanted?

Joe, thanks for the toolbar. I've been waiting for it since last summer.
