XML and XSLT on Mac OSX ?

Greetings:

I would like to learn XML. I tried to enroll in a class but I got turned down in a way because I only have access to a Mac OSX and the professor tells me that things wouldn't work well.

Quote:
Sorry xml and in particular its attendant stylesheet language XSLT do not
run well on a Mac platform.
END Quote.

Is that so? Are there any tools for the mac to deal with this? or any methods?

update:
hmmmm...has anyone here tried Mactransform XSLT Processor interface for the Mac?

It's been awhile so you might have figured everything out but in case your still looking into it... your teacher doesn't know what he's talking about. I use PHP to manipulate XML and XSLT to create dynamic websites all the time and I only develop on Mac OS X.

You can check out Macromedia's website and look at Dreamweaver. It handle's XML just fine but I'm afraid not XSL. I use a great program called Oxygen XML. Check it out here:

http://www.oxygenxml.com/

It's very fairly priced and has a 30 day trial that is the full product.

If you have any other questions let me know and I'd be glad to help.

Mike

And also...

It's been a while for me on a Mac too, but here's a guy who's doing great things on a Mac, and if you scroll this page you'll see lots of stuff he's made that deals specifically with XML.

URL

I think one thing you should look out for is that there are different encodings between PC and Mac systems (MacRoman). So if you ever start to write in languages that need extensive punctuation or accent marks, etc, it may end up being somewhat illegible on a PC.

Good luck.

Dan

I just wanted to chime in here... I'm not a Mac-fanatic anymore but I'm still a Mac-user, and I'm programming with XSL/T & XML right now... I find OS X a great platform for PHP/mySQL/XML etc for one reason--it's UNIX-based (BSD). And unlike Linux, I don't have to be a *nix guru to use this stuff (installations, etc.). As Webmeist suggests, Marc Liyanage over at entropy has created TextXSLT which handles parsing very well using different processor-types. I'm using it right now.

As far as encoding is concerned, any XML docs should be saved/used in UTF-8 as far as I know, so compatabilty isn't an issue.

Regards,

/johnny

Make this a Cocoa app and you'll be sitting pretty. Java apps work like crap on OS X unless they're tweaked--easier just to port it to Cocoa and let it run native.

Well, that's what I think, anyway.
