XMP metadata extraction from PDF, EPS, TIFF, etc.

Does anyone have a quick fix for this:

I have created a "hot folder" where I can drop files so that links are created on a web page. (This bit is done in PHP, but I am open to other suggestions).

The problem: at the same time, I want to extract the XMP metadata embedded in the files and associated it with the files (probably in MySQL or somesuch) for searches and viewing.

Any help appreciated.

P.
