XML error: junk after document element at line 3

New to XML, having trouble figuring out this error. The only thing I can see is that line 3 has the form <element>some.data</element>. Is the . throwing things off?

    Thx,
    Sheila

Periods are not going to hurt your xml...you can have whole paragraphs with periods and other symbols.

    Answer

I finally found out that the source sending the XML had some bogus characters in their code. They made changes on their end and it worked perfectly. (This application was one where I had to create an XML block containing query parameters, and received the reply in the form of an XML block generated by a third party).
